James Matthew Barrie

James Matthew Barrie (Kirriemuir 1860 – Londra 1937), è stato uno scrittore e drammaturgo scozzese. È ricordato principalmente per aver creato il personaggio di Peter Pan che compare in Peter Pan in Kensington gardens (1906) e poi in Peter and Wendy (1911).

Esordì con raccolte di bozzetti (Auld licht idylls, 1888; A window in thrums, 1889). Seguirono romanzi: The little minister (1891), Margaret Ogilvy (1896), Sentimental Tommy (1896), Tommy and Grizel (1900).

Seguono le opere drammatiche, ricche di fantasia e umanità, tra cui : The admirable Crichton (1903), Peter Pan (1904), What every woman knows (1908), The old Lady shows her medals (1916), Dear Brutus (1917), Mary Rose (1920).
